William Welker

William “Bill” Welker age 84 of Clarksville, TN, passed away at his residence on Thursday July 29, 2021.  He was born in Clarksville on January 18, 1937, the son of the late John Welker and Gertrude Shelton Welker.  Bill is a graduate of Clarksville High School. Bill was a fixture for five decades in the local automotive community.  Known for his talents as an engine builder, with a passion for racing, he spent many years in drag racing where he won numerous titles and gained the respect of all he competed against.  His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, and gardening.   He is survived by his wife Wanda Armstrong Welker of Clarksville, and his children Michael Welker (Jaime) of Clarksville;  Keri Welker of Clarksville; and Lisa Godfrey (Tom) of Sudlersville, MD.  He is also survived by two sisters Joyce Sheppard of New Bern, NC and Nora Thomas (Tommy) of Pine Mountain Valley, GA, and five grandchildren, Haley Welker, Alison Welker, Lillian Welker, Emily Godfrey, and Jane Godfrey.  There will be a memorial visitation on Wednesday August 4, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Gateway Funeral Home.  Arrangements are under the care of Gateway Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 335 Franklin Street  Clarksville, TN  37040.  Phone 931-919-2600.  Online condolences may be made by going to www.gatewayfh.com
