Vernon "Jr." Gilliam

Vernon Douglas Gilliam, JR. was called to his eternal rest on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Vernon was born on April 10, 1959 in Montgomery County, TN to Vernon D. Gilliam, SR. and the late Martha E. Gilliam-Green. Vernon was educated in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. In Elementary School, Vernon was on the championship baseball team of Moore Elementary School and continued to love sports throughout his life.

Until his health failed, Vernon enjoyed fellowship with his immediate family and friends.

Vernon will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Martha E. Gilliam-Green; Brother, Harry Gilliam, SR.; Son, Daniel Reed; and grandson. He leaves to cherish his memory, Father, Vernon (Margaret) Gilliam, SR.; Sisters, Susan Gilliam (Aracio) Porter and Veronica Marable Johnson; Brothers, Tony Marable, Terry Marable, and Tracy Marable; Devoted Aunt, Ernestine H. Dowlen; Aunts, Olivia Harris Vanderburg, Florence Starr, Margaret Felton, Shirley Thomas, Barbara Maples; Uncles, Roy (Sharon) Harris, Henry (Mary) Gilliam, Howard (Flora) Gilliam, Leon Gilliam; Great Aunt, Ada Majors (of Ashland City), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He also leaves devoted companion, Katie Reed.

A Memorial service honoring the life of Mr. Gilliam will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Gateway Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the hour of service.
