Mr. Ronald (Ron) Gray was born July 9, 1955 to the late Theodore Gray, Sr., and Hazel Gray in Gadsden, AL. He accepted Christ at an early age while attending Pleasant Temple Church of God. He went from elementary through high school in the Gadsden School System. He was also a member of the Chocolocco Boy Scouts, under his father T.S. Sr., as Scout Master. Ron advanced to the level of Eagle Scout. He played basketball and football during high school and attended Gadsden State Jr. College.
In 1975, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Fischbach, Germany; where he met and later married his wife of 47 years, Sylvia Hornung. During their union, 3 kids were born: Demetris, Felisha, and Kevin; grandchildren, Jasmine, Kieran, Janiya, Amari, Maliyah, Jahlil, Nevaeh, and Amanii, and only one great-grandchild, Jayden.
Ron retired from the military in 1997. He continued to work for Civil Service as an Instructor for demolition and hazardous materials. He developed a love for golfing and bowling. He also enjoyed eating his catfish. Until his health declined, he served as a member of the Community Chapel in Fort Campbell, KY under Chaplain Albert Addison, where he enjoyed playing bass and guitar.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, T.S. Sr., and Hazel Gray; along with his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hartwig and Isle Hornung (Germany); brother, Frederick Gray; sisters, Nancy (John) Love, Mary (Stanley) Brewster, and Joyce Ann; sister-in-law, LaRevia Gray, and Brigitta Hornung.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Sylvia Gray; daughters, Demetris (Vincent) Quarles and Felisha (Quentin) Dukes; and son, Kevin Gray; two brothers, T.S (Mattie) Gray Jr.,(AL), Charles Gray (AL); three sisters: LaFrench Grimes (TX), Glorious Fambrough, and Angela Gray (AL); sisters-in-law: Manuela Hornung (Germany), and Maritta (Andreas) Hammer (Germany).
Although the Lord called Ronald Gray home, his loving memories will be cherished and felt by his family and friends for a lifetime. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held at Gateway Funeral Home on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 2:00 P.M., with visitation beginning at 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
