Paul Browning went home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 31st, 2023 at age 57. He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by family at his home.
Paul was born on August 8th, 1966 in St. Augustine, Florida to Leo Roy and Joan Smith Browning. Paul grew up in Blanchester, Ohio and De Smet, South Dakota. Paul worked for Trane in Clarksville, Tennessee for 20 years, where he retired to become “Clarksville’s favorite Hot Dog Man” as co-owner of Pop & Dogs Food Truck with his wife of 31 years, Cindy.
Paul’s hobbies included geocaching, traveling, visiting local restaurants, working with various electronics, costuming, building movie props, tabletop games, and paranormal research. He founded the Clarksville Ghost Hunters and investigated many haunted locations in the Clarksville and mid-south area. He authored two books on paranormal subjects and has been a guest speaker for several conventions, conferences, radio shows, and local events. Paul performed as the character “Lump” in the Nashville horror show, Chiller Cinema, in the mid-2000s. He was also a member of the 501st Legion as a stormtrooper and participated in various charity events during his time with the group. Paul was also known for his incredible, hand-built Ghostbusters costume and could be seen every October all over town at various events and comic conventions.
Paul was diagnosed with colon cancer in late 2018. During the past nearly five years, Paul became an advocate for cancer screenings and awareness and has directly impacted the lives of many others throughout their cancer journeys. Some accredit his advocacy for screenings to catching potential cancer early and thus Paul became a hero figure for his friends and followers. He became affectionately known as Superman for both his tenacity in his fight against his own cancer and his loving focus on early intervention for others.
Many people remember Paul as being a positive, warm, and humorous personality as he helped serve the community through his food truck business. He made friends everywhere he went, whether it was to a restaurant, karaoke, or at the oncology office.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Cindy Browning, daughter; Shelby (Chris) Leeder of Sierra Vista, AZ, son; Logan Browning of Clarksville, TN, and grandchildren; Harlee and Stevie of Sierra Vista, AZ. Paul also leaves behind his extended family: Lee and Betty Brown, Mollie Perry, Tami (Kevin) Halliday, Donna (Jerry) Buchanan, Josh (Angie) Perry, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Patrick Browning.
The family would like to give special thanks to Paul’s best friend, Chris Dedman, for his unconditional love and friendship to Paul. The family also extends very gracious thanks to Dr. Olaide Ajayi at Tennessee Oncology, the host of nurses who cared for him, and the loving staff of Tennova Hospice.
The family will be holding a casual and joyful Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 5th, 2023 at Office NOW from 1pm to 4pm. Ghostbusters and Superman themed attire are encouraged.
