Norman Burt Ramey passed away peacefully in his home on January 20, 2016 after a long and brave battle with cancer. Burt, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was born March 22, 1933 in the Round Pond community of Montgomery County, to Raymond and Jennie Ramey, both of whom preceeded him in death. Also preceding Burt in death are his sisters Margaret Smith, Sarah Jordon, and brother Cornelius Ramey.
Burt is survived by daughters, Karen Hackney and Margaret Ramey; brother Rufus Ramey & Betty, and sister Lottie Thornton; grandson Tayshawn Smith; granddaughters Navaiya Ramey and Olivia Ramey, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and many friends, among them are his devoted friends William Jenkins and Richard Burney. Burt also leaves to mourn his passing, his classmates of the Historical Burt High School class of 1953.
After leaving the US Army, Burt had a few local employers, but most will remember Burt as a self employed paint contractor. It was a vocation that he really enjoyed because he was able to "throw in a few extras" that was his way of helping his community. Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt Zion Baptist Church, 2310 River Road, Clarksville.
