Matthew Jonathan Maher, age 20, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. He was born on April 13, 2002, in Clarksville, TN to Holly Annette Bivins.
Matthew attended Rossview High School. He played football for the Hawks, and enjoyed rooting on the Georgia Bulldogs in a house full of Tennessee Vols. He was the eldest of five siblings, and adored his brother and sisters above everything. He could often be found running around the house with his twin sisters on his shoulders or wrestling with Nolan. Matthew idolized his sister Hannah, and they spent many hours together riding around in his car, blasting music. He treasured the time he spent with them, and took great pride in being the best brother he could be.
Matthew enjoyed traveling with his family, and visited over half of the United States and fifteen different countries. His favorite part was enjoying local foods. While at home, Matthew was an avid Xbox player, and spent many nights gaming with his friends, instead of sleeping. He loved to explore his great-grandfather's farm on the Teryx. Matthew loved supervising his dad on the grill and smoker, always asking for a steak medium-rare (just like grandpa), and making special baking requests from mom for double chocolate cookies. He enjoyed long back scratches from his grandma. Matthew gave hugs freely, and never went to bed without a hug, kiss, and a goodnight.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving parents, Holly Annette and John Terrance Maher, and his biological father, Jonathan Jackson; his siblings, Hannah Danielle Maher, John Nolan Maher, Harper Leigh Maher, Hadley Claire Maher, and Lily Annabella Jackson; maternal grandparents, David Eugene Bivins, Sr., and Leigh Claire Cummings, and paternal grandmother, Martha Harriet Maher; a special aunt that he loved as a sister, Leslie Alexandra Cherry; his closest cousin that he grew up with, Eva Joleigh Bivins; his beloved great-grandfather, James C. Matlock, Sr.; and many more loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended relatives. Matthew is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Francis Clement Maher, and his uncle and namesake, Matthew Jason Morris.
A memorial service will be held at Gateway Funeral Home on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. with visitation for one hour prior to the service.
