Lawrence Edward Hancock age 91 of Waverly, TN passed away at his residence on Thursday January 19, 2017. He was born December 4, 1925 in Louisville, KY the son of the late Lawrence Jones Hancock and Jessie Mae Unser Hancock. Lawrence lived his early years in Hopkinsville, KY and went into the US Army following high school. He served during WW II and was in the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in the Philippines and was a paratrooper with over 100 jumps. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association and a Charter Member of the 325 Association. Following his time in the military, he continued to serve his country working with the Department of Defense until his retirement. He has lived in Waverly for the past 32 years where he loved to garden, watch the sunsets and take drives to look at old barns. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Lawrence is survived by his wife Patricia Linder Hancock of Waverly; Sons, Warren Hancock of Baltimore; Jeffrey Hancock (Susan) of Pasadena, MD; Steven Nickerson (Sherrie) of Omaha, NE; daughters Susan Tyre of Baltimore; Barbara Price (Bud) of Baltimore; Nancy Mackowski (Dennis) of Cumberland City, TN; Barbara Nickerson of Winterville, ME; and Bethanie Delfunt of Waverly. He is also survived by a sister, Edna Austin of Hopkinsville, KY and 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son Wayne Hancock and a sister Henrietta Mosley. Memorial services will be conducted at a later date at the Kentucky Veteran Cemetery West at Hopkinsville, KY.
