Joseph J. Richard, age 71 passed away on Thursday, July 14th, 2016 at Tennessee State Veteran's Home in Clarksville. He was born on March 21st, 1945 in Altoona, PA to the late Aloysius and Marie Fuchsgruber Richard. Mr. Richard served his country in three branches of the military as a registered nurse and later as a physician's assistant. He was awarded a Bronze Star and V for Valor for his service in the first Gulf War. During his time in the Navy, he was a boxer. He also served in Germany, Alaska and Texas. After retirement from the army, he was employed as a physician's assistant at Premier Medical in Clarksville. He also worked for thirteen years with Conrail.
He lived in Hopkinsville, KY from 1997 to 2011, and has resided in Clarksville since 2011. He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Hopkinsville; a member of the VFW, Bass Club, NRA and a fan of Kentucky Wildcats basketball.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Elliott Richard, whom he married in 1989; sons Matthew Monday and Mitch Monday (Brittany) of Clarksville; Jason Pepper of Hopkinsville; daughters Jennifer Griffiths (Timothy) of Wilmington, DE, Jessica Richard of New Cumberland, PA; brothers Ken Richard (Eleanor) of Altoona, PA, Tom Richard (Sharon) of Surprise, AZ and six grandchildren, Timothy, Grace Ann, and Nicholas Griffiths, Hannah and Gracie May Monday, and McKenzie Pepper.
Memorial services will be conducted on Tuesday July 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Kentucky Veteran Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY with full military honors.
