John Thomas Turner

John Thomas Turner, age 88, of Franklin, TN passed away on Wednesday August 7, 2019 at Tristar Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, TN. He was born January 8, 1931 in Nashville, TN to the late James Harry Turner and Lillie Spence Turner.

John served his country in the United States Navy. Apart from his service in the Navy, John held a Management position at Sears Retail Store. John was a dedicated member of New Providence Cumberland Presbyterian Church and often spoke in the pulpit, taught Sunday school, and Bible Study. Although his eyesight was taken away, John memorized many scriptures. He enjoyed playing guitar and had a gift for writing inspirational poetry. John's wife, Helen, emphasizes on what an intelligent man he was and continued to remind him that she fell in love with him for his beautiful mind.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of almost 62 years, Helen Turner; daughters, Laura (Mark) McGill of Franklin, and Lisa (Lynn) Newkirk of Colorado; grandchildren, Kayla (Tyler) Rogers, Megan (Joseph) Roberts, Randy Thomas Newkirk, and Casey Gene Newkirk; nephew, Jay Turner. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother Charles Lee Turner.
