Age 88, passed away peacefully at home in Clarksville on Feb. 4, 2017.He was born in Stewart County on September 16, 1928, to the late Asa and Vergie Rorie.He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Rorie of Clarksville; one brother, Joe (California) and one sister, Rebecca (Stewart County).
He is survived by four step-daughters; Linda Nichols, Doris Wilbur (Clarksville), Judy Chaney (Louisville, KY) Carolyn Wentz (Scottsboro, AL), sister, Betty Loewindorff (Tom) (Clarksville) brother, Gilbert (California).
John's church affiliation was Baptist. He was a devoted Christian.He was retired from Moore Construction Company.
John was a kind- hearted man who loved God, family, watching preaching services and old cowboy movies on television. John will be missed by everyone who shared in the life of this gentle man.
A private service will be held at a later date.Arrangements are entrusted to Gateway Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Clarksville.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Grace Hospice Foundation, 655 Brawley School Rd.Suite 200, Mooresville, NC 28117.The family expresses sincere appreciation to Avalon Hospice of Clarksville.
