James Thornton Fowler Sr. age 87, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2018 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was under the care of AseraCare Hospice of Clarksville. The informal celebration of his life will be at Salem United Methodist Church 2269 Seven Mile Ferry Road, Clarksville, TN on Friday July 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until the time of the service. Officiating will be his nephew, Pastor Robert S. Herndon of Cumberland City charge and Pastor Larry King of Salem United Methodist Church. Jim Fowler was born in Old Hickory, TN on April 7, 1931 to the late Dorothy Wall Fowler and Slayton Grimes Fowler. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and the Sunday School teacher for the Fellowship Class. He retired from Belk Store Services after 42 years of service as a project manager and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Merry June Fain Fowler (June), his siblings: Nancy Fowler Herndon and Don Wall Fowler. He is survived by his children, James (Jay) Thornton Fowler Jr. (Beth) and Merry June Fowler Etling (Harold). Grandchildren William Jamin Etling (Jamin), James Isaac Etling and Aren Eckstein and his great grandchildren Charity Faith Etling, Caleb James Etling, Christian Nathaniel Etling, and Hannah Raines Etling.
