Henry Ledbetter Shepherd

Henry Ledbetter Shepherd, age 81, of Clarksville, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at home with his wife of 61 years by his side.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Gateway Funeral Home with Pastor Larry A. Peters and Pastor Daniel Ulrich officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Visitation will also be on Friday at 10:00 A.M. till the hour of service. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Gardens beside his daughter Sherry and in-laws, Luther Lee and Louise Byrd.

Henry was born February 23, 1939 in Montgomery County, TN to the late Woodrow Wilson and Delma ‘Edna” Sutton Shepherd. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Annette Shepherd, and brothers, Larry C. Shepherd and Donald Ray Shepherd.

Led, as he was known to most everyone, attended Woodlawn School. He was an electrician, plumber, and worked all his life in construction. On January 22, 1960, he married Sarah Mai Byrd. They celebrated their 61^st wedding anniversary the day before his death.

Led had a love of dancing (boogie jiving as he called it). He loved being around the water and in his younger days, he could be seen water skiing (slalom of course) up and down the Cumberland River, from Smith Branch to McGregor Park. His favorite place to be was on a beach in Florida swimming in the ocean, building sand castles or just walking for miles up the beach. Led also loved his dog, Spooky.

Led is survived by his wife, Sarah; daughter, Karen (Steve) Christy; granddaughter, Sherry (Mark) Cooley; great grandchildren, Dillon Cooley and Holley Cooley. Siblings, Sue Biter, Billy (Marilyn) Shepherd, Faye (Freddy) Miler, James C. “Jimmy” (Pam) Shepherd , Bonnie Stone, Cornelia Moody and Marilyn (Tom) Webb; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bowers; many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces; extended family, Barry R. Hail.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Shepherd, Larry Dale Wyatt, James Shepherd, David Laliberte, Mitchell Laliberte and Craig Byrd.
