Harold Lee Phillips

Harold Lee Phillips age 75 of Clarksville, passed away on Thursday April 4, 2019 at his residence. He was born August 11, 1943 in Harvey, IL, the son of the late Alva Galen Phillips and Ludean Sowers Phillips. Harold served his country in the US Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and was an instructor during the Vietnam era. He is a graduate of Thornton Junior College in Illinois. Harold was baptized at the Thornton Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and archery. During his career, Harold had owned and operated glass companies in Illinois before moving to Paris Landing and eventually Clarksville. He worked in construction in Paris for a short time before getting back in the glass business in Clarksville. He and his wife had also owned and operated a landscaping business and an Archery shop in Nashville for several years. In later years they had worked as park attendants at Cheatham Dam and Percy Priest Campgrounds until Harold's health no longer permitted him to work. He is survived by his wife Kay Bishop Phillips; five children, three of his own and two who he helped raise; Harold Lee Phillips, Jr. of Frankfort, IL; Elizabeth Phillips of Lester, AL; Steve Phillips of Woodlawn, TN; Tammy Arms of Clarksville; and Bryan Smith of Cumberland Furnace, TN. Also surviving are sisters Marilyn Eggert of Knoxville; Barbara LaFaver of North Aurora, IL; and Debbie Reano of Neoga, IL; a brother Richard Phillips of Waynesboro, TN; as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Kitty Phillips and a brother John Phillips. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday April 6, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the chapel of Gateway Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Belt officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of services at 2:00 P.M. Pallbearers will be Gerald Hodges, Joe Lallo, Jerry Devers, Tim Harber, Larry Clinard, Mark LaFaver, and Roger LaFaver.
