Lt. Col. Glenda L. Thompson (ret) age 69 of Clarksville, passed away at her residence on Saturday July 9, 2016. She was born March 28, 1947 in Kingsport, TN, the daughter of the late Clifford Cunningham and Madolyn Rutledge Cunningham. She had a fulfilling career in nursing, having received her BS degree in nursing at East Tennessee State University, her MA degree in Adult Education from the University of Central Texas and a MA degree in Maternal-Child Nursing at Texas Womens's University as well as completing post graduate studies in Health Education through Austin Peay State University and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officers College and a Diploma in Health Care Administration with the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences. She served many years with the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. She served as a nurse practitioner at Blanchfield Army Hospital, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Martin Army Hospital in Ft. Benning, GA, Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, and at the General Hospital in Seoul, Korea. Much of her experience was in the area of pediatric oncology. Following her time in the Army, Glenda became a Professor of Nursing at Austin Peay State University, where she taught for the remainder of her career. She is a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a life member of the VFW Post 4895 and life member of the DAV. She is also listed in the Who's Who of American Nursing. She is survived by her husband Major George Thompson (U.S. Army ret); a son Jerel Mountcastle of Los Angeles; a daughter Donna Mountcastle Adams & husband Peter of Woburn, MA; a step son George Thompson IV of Rochester, NY; step daughters Sarah Stanton & husband Robert of Queens, NY; and Mandy Thompson of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by a sister Martha Whitt of Webber City, VA; as well as 2 grandchildren Patrick & wife Stacey Adams and Amanda Adams; 2 step grandchildren Edward and Mollie Thompson; and 3 great grandchildren Chloe, Ryan, and Jacob Adams. Family services will be held with burial at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Hopkinsville, KY.
