Dorothy Catherine Burkes

Dorothy Catherine Burkes, a cherished homemaker and matriarch, left this world on April 10, 2025, at her beloved home. Born on November 20, 1935, in San Leandro, California, Dorothy was the embodiment of warmth and love, an unwavering anchor for her family and friends throughout her life.

On September 6, 1953, Dorothy married the love of her life, Arthur R. Burkes, in Santa Rosa, California. Their bond was a testament to the profound love they shared, which she carried with her even after his departure. Dorothy was a devoted mother, to her own children and more, leaving behind her daughter, Catherine Spears (Robert) of Philadelphia, Mississippi; sons, William Theodore Burkes of Winslow, Indiana, Stanley Burkes (Susan) of Union, Mississippi, and Jeffrey Burkes of Clarksville, Tennessee. Dorothy's legacy continues through her 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy throughout her life.

As a homemaker, Dorothy found beauty in the simple things, filling her home with love through her hobbies and interests. She found joy in embroidering, crocheting, and creating ceramics, each stitch and every piece crafted carrying a piece of her heart. Her proudest accomplishment was her family, whom she nurtured with patience and love, teaching them the values of kindness, hard work, and the importance of togetherness.

Dorothy joins her late husband, Arthur R. Burkes; her son, David Burkes; her daughter, Elizabeth Watness; and her brother, George Gravatt, in eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Gravatt and Dorothy Morecroft, who must be welcoming her with open arms.

A visitation with family will be held on April 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Gateway Funeral Home in Clarksville, TN. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy Catherine Burkes will be profoundly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her, but her legacy of love, strength, and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
