Christine Baynham "Big Mama" Moody

Christine "Big Mama" Baynham Moody passed away on Saturday October 11th, at St. Thomas West in Nashville at the age of 91. She was born on April 16th, 1923 in Woodlawn, TN to the late Rushing McClure and Lillie Trice Baynham.

She was a member of the Cabin Row Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Mother's Board. She was a seamstress, and at the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of Cabin Row Missionary Baptist.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Moody; a son, Herman McClure Moody; daughter Carolyn Sue Moody Mitchell; four brothers, L.M. Baynham; Willie Lee Baynham; Pastor Johnny Baynham; Earl Baynham; four sisters, Myrtle Vance; Mae Ella Williams; Anna Moody; Augusta Moss; and a grandson, Dexter S. Mitchell.

She is survived by a son, Raymond (Star) Moody of Detroit, MI; sister Hattie Moore (Earl) of Southside, TN; grandchildren Robert Mitchell of Clarksville; Chris Moody of Denver, CO; Shane Burgess and Carolyn M. Moody, both of Detroit, MI; eleven great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be on Saturday October 18th, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gateway Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19th, at Cabin Row Missionary Baptist Church; 1230 Southside Road, Southside, TN 37171. Phone 931-387-2419.
