Chester Irving Staats

C. Irving Staats of Woodlawn, TN, known to most as Irv, went to his heavenly home on August 23, 2023.

Visitation will be held at New Providence United Methodist Church, Clarksville, TN on Sunday, September 3rd from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 P.M.

Irv was born in Newport, RI on August 10, 1935 to the late Chester and Mildred Horton Staats. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Staats and brothers, Robert and Richard Staats. He is survived by his wife, Anne Little Staats, children Gary Staats, Brian (Michelle) Staats, daughter; Diana (Jody) Watson, stepchildren; Mary (Herb) Rivera, Amy (Gary) Austin, and Scott (Lisa) Little; grandchildren, Alexandra & Eric (Luca) Staats, Hunter Watson, Caitlyn (Brent) Williamson, Jenna (Reggie) Mann, Jacob Vaughan, Hayden Little, Promise and RJ Rivera, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Irv was an avid sailor from the age of 9 years old and had a great love for the sea. He was an Air Force Veteran and later in life was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Irv retired from the US Postal Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Providence United Methodist Church for the General Fund or to Oceana @act.oceana.org.
