Charles J. Hinton age 8o passed away at his residence on Sunday April 10, 2016. He was born October 13, 1935 in Russellville, KY the son of the late Herbert G. Hinton and Josephine Kelley Hinton. Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 through 1956. He served during the Korean War on the USS Newport News. Following his time in the Navy, he became a barber, later becoming an auctioneer, and later becoming a realtor. He, along with his wife Sandra, was the owner of Hinton Real Estate for many years. Charles was active in the Clarksville community serving on the Sheriff's Department Reserve for many years, serving on the Clarksville City Council, was a lifetime member of the VFW, and was the owner of the Clarksville Speedway for several years. He was known in the community for being the auctioneer for many charity events in Clarksville. He is survived by 4 daughters, Cindy Church of Hendersonville, TN; Cathy Wall (Chris) of Clarksville; Anna Blackwell (Steve) of Clarksville; and Jamie Hinton of Clarksville; a son Jamey Hinton of Clarksville; and a sister Linda Sullivan of Loxahatchee, FL. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Sandra Ellis Hinton who passed away in 2003. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday April 14, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Chapel of Gateway Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home and for one hour prior to services on Thursday.
