Colonel Boyce R. Meers, (U.S. Army, Ret.), age 91 passed away on Tuesday, November 10th, 2015 at the Tennessee State Veterans' Home in Humboldt, TN. He was born on March, 4th 1924 to the late John T. Meers, Sr. and Fannie Shaw Meers in Hodgenville, Ky. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Loretta in 1978 and daughter Diane Meers Bartosh.
Colonel Meers graduated from the University of Maryland and also graduated from Army War College with honors. He served his country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. During the Vietnam era and President J.F. Kennedy's administration, he also served at the Pentagon. He retired after 33 years.
He had resided in Clarksville since 1971, and was a member of the First Baptist Church; he was proud to serve as a counselor for Camp Rainbow for several years. He was the owner-operator of St. Bethlehem TV Shop and later had the Curtis Mathes franchise in Montgomery County from which he retired in 1991. During retirement, he loved to fish and served for several years on the Board of Directors at the Fort Campbell Credit Union. He was also a member of the Rotary Club where he was bestowed a Paul Harris Fellow and was honored Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Atkins Meers of Clarksville, whom he met and married in 1980; daughter VeeVee Meers Durham and husband Bob of Clarksville; brother Reverend Harold Meers of Bloomington, IL; sister Phyllis Eckerly of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 6:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Gateway Funeral Home with his brother, Reverend Harold Meers officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 4:00 p.m. until time of service. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 15th at 1:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia, KY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or the FUEL Program through the First Baptist Church in Clarksville.
