Birdie Reeves Radcliffe, 87, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Ahava Residential Care in Clarksville, Tennessee after a lengthy decline in health. Her prayers to God were granted as she transitioned peacefully in her sleep with a smile on her face. She was born December 19, 1936, to Jessie Reeves, Sr and Mary Bell Batson in Clarksville, Tennessee. She later moved to Evansville, Indiana with her family when she was still young. She attended school in the Evansville school district. She married James Edward Radcliffe, Sr., who preceded her in death in May 1996.
She often shared stories of her childhood in Evansville, Indiana with her sister Mary. She bragged about her days playing on her junior high basketball team with her best girlfriends. Like her big sister Mary, Momma Birdie worked as a home healthcare companion and independent contractor with Memorial Hospital. She did not mind telling you she was good, and she was.
Momma Birdie was one of eight children. She is preceded in death by her siblings: Jessie Reeves Jr., Frank Reeves, Edward Reeves, Mary Elizabeth (France) King, Nathaniel France, Edward France, and James France.
Momma Birdie was a caring and loving mother who enjoyed being surrounded by her children, dictating instruction, offering words of wisdom, and holding her regal court. She took special joy in going for rides, Pepsi, and her sweets. Precious memories are shared by her surviving children: Jacqueline Reeves Thomas, Angela Long Loafman, Sherri Long, Ivette Long, Frances Long, Helen Long, James Edward Radcliffe, Jr, Carl Radcliffe, Greg Long (deceased), Ervin Long, Tony Long, Maurice Long, James Long, a host of grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
