Artie Syrell Powell-King

Artie Syrell Powell-King, age 68, of Clarksville, TN, went to be with her late husband George King on Monday November 15, 2021 at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville.  She was born July 23, 1953 in Stuttgart, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Verna Hughes.  She had worked in the banking business during her career.  She lit up the room with her infectious smile and laughter.  You could always find her going on her long walks with her granddaughter Elesia or sitting watching Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason, or Columbo for hours.  She loved her Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears and her home church Family Christian Center in Munster, IN.  She loved to hear Pastor Steve and John Ponder speak.  Family meant the world to her and she cared deeply for everyone.  She could talk for hours and everyone listened as if time stood still.  She will be missed deeply.  She leaves behind her children Cheka Powell (fiancé Corey Jennifer) of Clarksville; Tamu Powell (Jody Powell-Portney) of Smyrna; Brandon Young; Sheela Dodd; Lorie Johnson; Sadie Davis; Aaron Martin; Aundre Lipscomb; Donald Powell; Mallissa Powell; Sabrina Lampley (Anthony); Annie McCoullgh (Clarence); and Kandiz Powell. She is also blessed with grandchildren, Elesia Powell; Tia Powell; Dylan Powell-Portney; Atarah Powell-Portney; Corey Jennifer Jr.; Jozelynn Dodd; Princess Young; Carmen McCoullgh; Carmello McCoullgh; Cecelia Hall; and Tamu Powell Jr. She is also survived by a host of siblings, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  There are no public funeral services planned at this time.  Arrangements are under the care of Gateway Funeral Home and Cremation Center  335 Franklin Street  Clarksville, TN  37040.  Phone 931-919-2600.  Online condolences may be made by going to www.gatewayfh.com.
