Agatha J. Wilson

Agatha J. Wilson

2 Timothy 4:7-9 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.  Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:

Agatha J. Wilson, daughter of the late Robert and Elisabeth Jones, was born December 6, 1934 in Washington, North Carolina.  She departed life on September 4, 2021 at the residence of her daughter Cecile Wilson of Clarksville.

Agatha was raised in Washington NC where she attended and graduated from Mother of Mercy High School.  She completed one year at Norfolk State in Virginia. As a child she attended Mother of Mercy Catholic Church where she was a faithful member.  She was currently a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarksville where she served faithfully in the choir for almost 50 years at the time of her passing. When she was not able to serve anymore in that capacity she would sit as close to the choir as possible to hear them sing. She was a joy to be around and left lasting memories with everyone she came in contact with. She was a devout Christian and always had a thirst to learn more and more about God. Her spirit was infectious.

Agatha worked for South Central Bell as a telephone operator for over 15 years. She also sold furniture as a sales representative with Family Furniture in Oak Grove, Kentucky for over 10 years.  She was married to John W. Wilson Sr. and was a devoted wife for over 66 years and a loving mother to five children. After raising her own children to be strong and independent adults, she found it in her heart to raise several grandchildren and be a babysitter to great grandchildren. She was always a supportive mom and grandmother, always concerned about the well-being her children and grandchildren. Although she had five children and many grandchildren, she made it point to buy a Christmas gift for everyone and mailed the gift to various parts of the country no matter how taxing it was.

Agatha had a great love for people and people loved to be around her and do things for her. Whether it was lending a helping hand, giving a ride, a smile or encouraging word. She was a mother and grandmother who truly cared. Her life was one that modeled Christ and it will always speak for itself. She loved to collect a variety of dolls, play Bunco, dance, listen to Elvis Presley’s Christian CDs, and eating brunch with the church choir members every Sunday.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two sisters Barbara Draper and Cecilia Hunt, brother Robert Jones, and two daughters, Joncie Powell and Ann Wilson. She’s leaves behind to cherish her memories three children: John Wilson Jr. and Cecile Wilson both of Clarksville TN, and David Wilson (Lisa) of Lawrenceville GA, and one sister Bernadette Jones of Durham NC. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 27 great great grandchildren and many friends. Agatha was an incredible woman who will be immensely missed by many…hold on to the memories. “How blessed it is to have someone so wonderful that it makes saying goodbye so hard.”

A celebration of life service will be held 10 am, Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
